NPCs can still fail even when repairing a blessed item, but repairing one point at a time is safer in the long run. If you do a complete repair on a fresh claymore with 0 durability, that's 13 repairs during any of which the NPC can fail (which removes the blessing). Any repairs after that are made WITHOUT the blessing, making additional failures more likely.
And repairing during the daytime really makes a difference? I thought that was just a myth similar to all those people who swear by making your luck as high as possible when repairing.
