I liked the manga ending better.
I hear it all depends on which one you see first, but the original seems to have done a better job.

The anime did what they did so they could use some of the music they had with the glowy effects to make it dramatic (and fit the 20+ minute episode requirement of course).

Code Geass ending > Death Note ending x 10000

You heard a lot of girls crying at the end of death note ending. But not because the story made them all teary eyed. Because they're fangirls and light just died.
You heard a lot of guys crying at the end of Code Geass. But we are NOT Lelouch fanboys.
