I hate Vista for two reasons. One is the uneconomical drain on system resources, but even bigger than that are all the reasons running behind it...Vista wasn't really designed for the consumers so much as for software and media companies...it's chock full of all kinds of background devices and controls that, in my opinion, violate personal privacy...here's an article if you want more info. Is Microsoft Vista “Police-ware”? Antwerp Calling
roflmao - I liked that article ~ though I don't see what is all that bad in the EULA and the whole issue about trusted computing is all crap. Especially since if microsoft didn't do it, you would still have trusted computing on your computer if you have a computer with an Intel or AMD chip in it, whch a significant portion of computers do have. I mean, the Ary and department of Defense require it, so they obviously believe it does what it supposed to do - make your computer more secure, even if it means it has to keep you from screwing it up. Though, the end of the article made me laugh when it said that the issue came down to them trying to copy Apple's propiety approach to hardware.

In the end, an article written almost a year ago doesn't take into account all the changes that have occured since then, and the whole bit about Microsoft beng a monopoly is about 10 years old, at least. icrosoft has been a monopoly for a long time, but the average person likes the fairly cheap operating system that works for the most part in a manner that allows the to do what they want. Why break up a company that meets that demand into smaller companies, or god forbid, give a portion of it to it's competitiors for monetary compensation. Could you imagine the crap that would happen if Apple got a large enough portion of Microsoft that it could compete at a level that would saturate the market with mac computers?

And loss of anonymity is a humorous point, one should never expect to be anonymous while surfing the internet. Only a complete idiot would think they are anonymous. The reason Microsoft has actually taken as long to fix a signifincant portion of the issues that people complained Vista has is because a large prtion of those complaining don't use Vista. If people would get off their lazy butts and just switch, Mirosoft would be forced to actually fix problems that are really there. I will admit, they shot themselves in the foot with the multitude of version. But, whatever.

I didn't think 98 was all that great compared to 95, the whole dos shell instability issues became so much worse when they added the 98 shell around what they already had. I did like XP when it came out, but there was a lot of negative feelings toward it when it came out too, just not as many as with Vista. But that's because XP came out a lot closer to the previous versions than Vista did, so people have become narrow-minded in their mindset of XP making them resist change more than they normally would have. I must say that I hated DOS, but will admit it was efficient.

And who cares what Bill Gates says about technology - he knows how to program at a level far superior to his ability to actually use what he has made. If I want a good opinion on something related to programming, I will listen to him. Besides, he's getting older, and just out of human nature that makes him more resistant to change. Albeit, he is more tech savvy than most people half his age will probably ever become.

Just as a point of humor - my grandmother, who isn't exactly computer savvy by any measure, has had Vista for almost a year and she thinks it is a lot better than XP.
