Yeah, I personally though the end of deathnote was beautiful(the anime, I'm not quite finished with the manga) there's really nothing more poetic then having all your past crimes come to bite you in the butt in one fell swoop. And if you remember, Misa gave up half her lifespan.. twice, it was just a matter of how it ended for her.
Though, I half expected Light to become some grotesque shinigami when he died... don't know why.
