Actually... the current third party decision is that Vista's graphics are on par with XP's, but that's arguable based on whether your machine has the power to give to Vista to actually show it.
ANd yes, ctrl+alt+delete does go to a window that allows you to switch users/log out and all that, but that window's priority level is above that of explorer.exe and has a well labeled button right there on it to launch the task manager. Though as you said that is useless since you can't get that far. And as a note, if it doesn't work while testing either stick, you could be one of those horribly rare annomalys that somehow screwed up both sticks. It happens, my cousin managed it... And people have hated every Microsoft OS when it has come out, and a lot of people say that the new ones are bloated, but that goes all the way back to MSDOS, which people complained about being bloated. But because of that they have been forced to make better and faster computers to carry the load without too much of an issue which made them decide to make a newer and better OS. It's a lovely cycle that pretty much just means better games, better graphics and faster computers. Give it another year and things should smooth out, though that s forever away and i want it all smoothed out now... Back-On-Topic: Anways, I wish you luck ans hope it is just a bad RAM issue since RAM is probably the best thing to have die on you since it doesn't contain your computer's data on it and can be swapped without too much hassle.

I hate Vista for two reasons. One is the uneconomical drain on system resources, but even bigger than that are all the reasons running behind it...Vista wasn't really designed for the consumers so much as for software and media companies...it's chock full of all kinds of background devices and controls that, in my opinion, violate personal privacy...here's an article if you want more info. (read the connecting articles as well) Is Microsoft Vista “Police-ware”? Antwerp Calling

Vista also HIDES features from you because they assume we're all retarded and won't be touching it.
Touching it could screw something up you know, and then they have to answer a bunch of phone calls about why their sound isn't working because they messed with their sound card or something. Pulling those out are impossibly hard. I haven't tried professional, and maybe thats better, but the OS I use right now is downright crap, there hasn't been one positive thing about it compared to XP and 2000 Professional I've used. Even Bill Gates says he'd rather stick to a XP.

In the end, an article written almost a year ago doesn't take into account all the changes that have occured since then, and the whole bit about Microsoft beng a monopoly is about 10 years old, at least. icrosoft has been a monopoly for a long time, but the average person likes the fairly cheap operating system that works for the most part in a manner that allows the to do what they want. Why break up a company that meets that demand into smaller companies, or god forbid, give a portion of it to it's competitiors for monetary compensation. Could you imagine the crap that would happen if Apple got a large enough portion of Microsoft that it could compete at a level that would saturate the market with mac computers? And loss of anonymity is a humorous point, one should never expect to be anonymous while surfing the internet. Only a complete idiot would think they are anonymous. The reason Microsoft has actually taken as long to fix a signifincant portion of the issues that people complained Vista has is because a large prtion of those complaining don't use Vista. If people would get off their lazy butts and just switch, Mirosoft would be forced to actually fix problems that are really there. I will admit, they shot themselves in the foot with the multitude of version. But, whatever. I didn't think 98 was all that great compared to 95, the whole dos shell instability issues became so much worse when they added the 98 shell around what they already had. I did like XP when it came out, but there was a lot of negative feelings toward it when it came out too, just not as many as with Vista. But that's because XP came out a lot closer to the previous versions than Vista did, so people have become narrow-minded in their mindset of XP making them resist change more than they normally would have. I must say that I hated DOS, but will admit it was efficient. And who cares what Bill Gates says about technology - he knows how to program at a level far superior to his ability to actually use what he has made. If I want a good opinion on something related to programming, I will listen to him. Besides, he's getting older, and just out of human nature that makes him more resistant to change. Albeit, he is more tech savvy than most people half his age will probably ever become. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Just as a point of humor - my grandmother, who isn't exactly computer savvy by any measure, has had Vista for almost a year and she thinks it is a lot better than XP.

And it hides many of the more advanced functions from you so you have to manually find it. Its annoying. Seen Office 2007?

I gave up arguing against vista.
Bottom line is most people who don't use their computer for more than just web browsing or non-computer technical work (graphics, design and multimedia or office work), are going to prefer the simple, "we hide everything from you under a flashy GUI" type of OS, such as macs, and now vista which pretty much borrowed from mac. To illustrate my point, all but 4 people in my graphics design class hated windows, claiming, and strongly believing, that windows could not under any circusmtances run photoshop-like software to do graphics work. I proved them wrong and put their pathetic macs to shame with superior peformance on a 2 year old laptop. Those who like full access to their system, are going to prefer anything that offers that without having to dismantle the whole OS and disable every default feature. If i were forced to use vista, i'd probably spend a day setting it up and by the time i'm done it would be as close to XP as it could get. Last edited by osayidan; 10-28-2008 at 02:14 PM. |

Okay, I finally figured it out. It was hard drive corruption. I pulled out all my important files, cleared my hard drive disk, and then reinstalled vista overall. It'll take me a while to reset all my configurations for vista, but problem is fixed.

We have advanced things to do, other than playing video games. When it comes to running Mabinogi, other than the fact that vista takes over 500mb ram, it does a fine fine job.
