Defense,Protection, and Critical

1 defense block 1 damage
1 protection block 1% damage, also -2% rate of critial as well as decrease wounds.
100 defense means anything under 100 attack does 1 damage
100 protection means anything only does 1 damage

Critical is based on monster's protection and kept at 33.%
for example a target has 0 protection
1. your critical is 25%, then you have 1/4 chance of getting a critical
2. your critical is 50% passed the point of 33.3%, then you only get 33.3% chance

-2% critical rate is taken off each Protection point a target gets.
-Windmill ignores the target's Protection when calculating critical rate.
-Pvp ignores the target's Protection when calculating critical rate.

That's interesting information... I didn't realize that protection was better for you then defense. Go figure.

Well technically it's only better for you than defense once you're to the point where enemies are doing more than 100hp damage to you in one hit.

If they do less than 100, def is better:

For example, with 10 def and 10 prot, lets say you get hit for 50 damage:
(50dmg - 10def) = 40 dmg - (40dmg)*10prot = 36 dmg

In this case, 10 def gives you a 20% reduction in damage whereas 10 protection gives you a 2.5% reduction in damage.
Def is most important for beginners...once you get up there, prot is more important. Of course...the best way to do it is to not get hit at all.

Im still at that point where i feel that def helps me better than protection o.o..

But I always balance my accessories anyways

Yea there are upgrades, im not sure about small shields upgrades but

Kite Shields have 4% and PD (as in mana refractor, neutral shield or that other one) for 2 upgrades. So you can get 8% of 1 PD or mix it up and get 4% of two.

Hetero's have 6% PD. So this just means Light Heteros are Horrible and only ones that should be gotten is a Normal Hetero shield since a Kite Shield will have a total of better upgrades and are the same Def as a Light Hetero.

Anyways, i do not think its possible to get to 100 protect, well not in NA server, maybe in the other. There are barely any Protect enchants, most are Accessories as ive seen (Taurus). Id have too say the highest you can probably get is around 30~50 depending on your Defense rank.

Kite Shield is still better...
7x better than Round Shield. (35 def versus 5 def from Round Shield on defense)

I didn't know PvP ignores protection till now. o_O
