In games like maplestry and other games, there main channels are all ch 1. why isnt mabinogi like dat? :P

Ch4 is the Shopping channel. It's not channel 1 because I think that lag got so bad at one point on channel 1, that the channel crashed and people lost a lot of items and money because of the crash. (Ch1 was the previous shopping channel) Now I guess people don't want to take the chance that it may have bugs and crash again. I remember ch1 was inoperable during the first day of ego weapons because of the sheer amount of people on it... That's why I stay far away from 1... I don't really see why they chose 4 though, it's such an odd number.

It's a funny story actually (unless you lost your stuff, then it's orz)

The "shop" channel was channel 1 on Mari before...and then the crashes came.

Basically, some time in the summer, there was a period where there were mass server crashes. Like...a lot. This completely screwed up the shops and everyone was scattered for a period of time.

Then there was this one day where the channels were crashing in sequence (1->2->3,) and somehow, everyone ended up on Ch 4.

Although Nexon has now fixed the inane crashing, everybody just stayed on Ch4; no motivation to go back to Ch 1 I guess lol.

Yea, it is the shopping channel for all your laggy, goody needs. I stay away from ch. 1(incase it crashes again) and I stay away from 4 (Obviously, because of lag). So I mostly stay on 3,5, or 2

Yeah...that bothers me personally 'cause I try to always have a shop open which leaves me running dungeons in Ch4 -_-* I prefer 3

I thought it was because... when you first start, the channel list is automatically set on Channel 4?

So all the new players going into channel 4 makes the server status to "Busy", which makes people think there are more users there, which is why they set up shops there?

But yeah. New players are set to Channel 4 by default...

channels 1 2 3 got upgraded in size if anyone recalls back before summer 4 5 did not... That is your answer... Least in ruairi....
