Default Hackshield initialization error for Maplestory

Freshly downloaded, it won't load...i obviously don't have any mods for maplestory since i just downloaded it..

Won't load, just says hackshield initialization error when I click start game.

Help please?

Oy, it happened to me too. Nexon gave a fix for it somewhere, saying it was a hackshield update error. I tried, and I ended up just giving up and uninstalling it. Lemme find the original post.

The fix is to delete all but twelve files in your HackShield folder, and then run the game to automatically update HackShield. However, people are missing one of the files. You can use your Mabinogi HackShield folder to get into the game, but so far, I can only get to the character select screen before the game crashes.

Once I tried actually using the Mabinogi HShield folder instead of the Maplestory one.
Got as far as the game screen before disconnecting.

Odd thing is, they say 12 files, they list 13.

As far as I know, there really isn't one. As Andy said, Nexon can't even get things right on there own in fixing the bug, and they don't really care.

Here's the thread where they tell you to post problems, and yet they yell at you for posting about the problem there. Some one did come up with one method to fix it, but it doesn't work for everyone (like me).

PPL with Windows XP This is what you do.

1. go to the start menu and click run
2. type in cmd.exe or just cmd You'll get a black window and this is the command prompt
3. then type in the command line netsh winsock reset catalog Then Press enter
4. It will tell you to restart for changes to take effect
5. in the next command line type in shutdown -r close all windows
6. when comp is booted back up run MS and it should work. It did for me.

PPL with Windows VISTA This is what you do.

1. Click on Start button.
2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
3. Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter, keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Allow elevation request.
4. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
5. Close all window's and then restart.
6. run ms.

HOPE this works for everybody
I was hoping that this latest patch would fix it, but that's asking to much from Nexon.

Unfortunately, the only thing that can fix this is either for someone to upload the missing file for us, or Nexon to fix themselves. I tried going to the AhnLab and see if I can get an update from there, but I couldn't find a link that will let me download a newer patch for HackShield. Instead, they were trying to sell it to me.

Oh right, when I logged a ticket, they told me to download this "Ahnlab Diagnostics System" or something. I'll give you the link they gave me, and a copy of the ticket.

Everyone, I was able to fix this by allowing rights for EagleNT. You should see 6 entries in EagleNT and 2 categories if you've done it correctly. Then maple will proceed to update and play like usual.
