Lemme get a round in on this one...Hacking is ILLEGAL, unless you work for the government or large corprate firms that pay you to hack technology blueprints and they protect you behind Billion dollar attourneys and OBBER Firewall and Defense Shields of technology and give you an artificial IP and DLL... Its out there. To waste that kind of power on a stoopid virtual item? What a moron. Most Hackers charged these days are slapped with an added life restriction too- A federal offense for coming within 1000 feet of a computer, and believe me the feds watch that too. Dumb.
Secondly, fame and fortune over a random item generation? Falls into the millions of people spending their childrens inheritance on lotto tickets and then dieing - not winning and having nothing to leave to thier kids. There is a point... and at that point gambling turns into a sickness that effects more than just you- His parents probably had to flip the bill for court costs and attourney fees too... sad. He'll be writting his resume' on a typewritter....

It's not exactly stealing since he didn't take anything. In a case like this it's more giving himself access to something rather than theft. NX generated out of nothing can't be stolen by definition. It's the same as if i edited this forum's database to give myself a 10,000 post count and get "gold" for my posts.

If what Markis said about the button clicking is true then it had nothing to do with programing languages.
Even if he actually had hacked it directly those languages you listed would have done him no good. an sql injection would be the only real way to do anything using a programing language (knowledge of php/asp and sql database structures), though if nexon is actually vulnerable to an sql injection i'm uninstalling mabinogi and never coming back XD

Anyways, a real hacker would have granted himself access to the database and subtracted 5 - 10 NX from a few hundred people and added it to his account. This way a very unnoticeable amount goes missing from some people, they'll probably never know, and he gains a bunch, without creating new NX, which is probably what triggered the alarm. Even if he had created an unauthorized 100 or even less NX it probably would have been noticed. If nexon is smart they monitor exactly how much NX there is in total VS how much has been paid for on a regular basis.
