A 15 year old Romanian boy Ionut Savin, stabbed his adoptive mother 17 times after she refused to pay the internet bill. She felt that Ionut spent too much time on the computer and playing games. Ultimately she felt this was the only way to help him break his “addiction.”

After stabbing his mother, the boy stole all the money in the house he could find and then went to a local internet café. Once at the café, he played Counter-Strike for several hours. The mothers body was found by her husband when he returned home from work that evening. The couple was supposed to be celebrating 16 years of marriage that evening.

Distraught, the husband called the police immediately after his wife’s lifeless body was discovered. Ionut quickly turned himself in and very calmly stated to police, “I think I’m the one you’re looking for.” He then showed the police where he had tossed the weapon he had used to stab his mother.

Ionut Savin was known to be “dependent” on video games and spent most of his time on the computer playing games and browsing the web. His “addiction” caused him to miss over 200 days of school and to have almost no social life at all outside of the internet. Ionut Savin is now hospitalized under guard in a psychiatric clinic.

Although I can imagine... no, I know that someone will use this to try and pin down gaming as a true evil. But this is just a sad, sad event.

The parents should have restricted the amount of time he played these games. He probably wouldn't have been such a psycho and stabbed his mother over "not paying the bill" for the internet. Another show of how lack of parenting can lead to addictions and how the anger will be misdirected yet again to video games, and not the actual problem.

It's not necessarily the parents fault but you can't help but feel they should of gotten him help sooner. If it wasn't over the internet it would of been something else at some point in the future since he's obviously not stable. Someone should of been like hey, you, counseling. Whether it was the parents or a teacher. Missing 200 days of school for an addiction at that age should be a big indicator that the kid needed help before something went wrong.

It's not the internet's fault; It's the kid. Plenty of people use the internet, some people just don't have the capacity to control addiction. Someone like him could easily become addicted to anything, the internet was probably just the closest thing there was.
