Default Anyone actually composing?

I've notice something: Almost no one composes original songs!
I've heard over one million times anime and videogame songs and extracts from modern or classical music but almost no original compositions.
But I'm not complaining, I actually found myself copying songs because I couldn't understand the system completely and because the little songs I composed were terrible!
I just wanted to know if anyone else noticed.
I'm composer Grade F--- in RL.

Yeah, most people copy+paste their favorite anime/videogame music from mabimml or something.

But actually composing a good original piece of music would be really difficult to do, not to mention a royal pain. Heck, it's still tedious to transpose existing music into MML format. >_>

All you really need for a decent composition is basic understanding of music theory, a good music composing program (I use Finale) and 3ML for MML format. Just dig deep and find the song in your heart. It may sound cheesy, but I think any artist worth thier salt carries that in thier soul.

Perhaps you are right, I rather have a Mabinogi full of people refining their actual skills than a Mabinogi full of copy/paste art. Thou a few copied songs won't hurt, as long as that's not all your repartiorie.

If it isn't hurting anyone, it shouldn't be a problem.

It kinda hurts me... I feel sad for copy/paste musicians. They have to rely on half-assed songs from some two-bit wannabe artist to convey thier feelings because they can't take the time to compose for themselves. I'm not saying that there aren't some of these people with some redeeming qualities. Nor do I look down on them. But I feel sorry that they can't rely on thier own skills. I think that covers all I have to say for this topic.

You're right, 99.95% of all the songs played on Ruairi have been copy pasta. I myself have absolutely no musical ear nor the ability to read sheet music and yet composing music is still a fun activity. I don't see why it's so terrible to do it -- it felt a lot like learning the dungeon combat system. Watch for patterns, keep your wits up to detect sequences that you like, and apply everything through trial and error. Even without any skill what-so-ever you can produce a fairly catchy tune.

Ya, it does take a bit of time but anything with any quality to it is going to take a solid hour or two to produce and refine. It's a 'get what you pay for' sort of skill; easy to train and rank up-- but getting anything quality out of it takes effort. I mean, come, whats expected from putting 5 minutes of your time into converting a song into mml? Lots of rip-offs, copy-cats, and replays, at best. Just like maxing out smash and not learning anything about combat. Sure, you can 1 hit enemies but you're still a useless party member in a dungeon and I'd take a newbie who didn't multi-aggro over you any day.

tl;dr - Composing original songs is fun. Do it.

I commend you for stating that so eloquently. Couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you.

Composing is one of the funnest parts of Mabinogi that gives me reason to play. It's the skill that gives you more customization. And I really love to compose songs myself.

As for beginner players, its not so much as musical talent. It's greatly involves practice. Like Tack said, it takes a couple hours at the most to make something sweet but that small detail doesn't separate the talented and the determined.

I'm in the talented group, but nonetheless I still think that anyone who believes that they can, WILL!

And it does my heart good to see people succeed.

I can see what your saying, but I feel you are trying to justify the situation far too much. I know I couldn't compose a song, and I don't have a lot of time to spend on it. I would feel content enough to share a piece I copied from another person that they made to share with others. It's something that is far to casual to be angered at, but I suppose this is all our opinions. In a way all of us are moochers in some way or another.
