It actually makes your pet lose EXP as well, which is why I never summon my pet in PvP. Training high level pets are a pain.

Well I mean, if you're gonna take the time to train your pet to Level 80, I don't think you might care so much about it losing EXP. It's not like you're gonna level it further.

Efficiently training a pet isn't just about training it to high levels. It is about training it to high levels while it is young or at an age which level boosts up STR more (for strong melee pets).

You could train an Age 20 pet to level 100, but that doesn't mean it'll be EPIC. It just means that it'll have most of its skills at the max rank, but it won't gain level up boosts for those levels.

Yeah, once you hit level 51, you kinda stop wanting to grind them >_>, but it sure as hell worth it tho!
