Default Weapon loosing durability... in town?

I heard someone say that your weapon slowly looses durability even if you are just standing around in town with it equipped. They said this is why your weapon should be stowed away while in town. Is this true? And if it is, what if it's in your secondary slot, therefore not out but still equipped? I haven't noticed any loss, but I don't keep real close track all the time either.

I really hope it's not true, cause that just makes inventory space that much tighter if I can't keep my weapon equipped all the time. And what about armor? Does the same hold true for that to? (Not that it really matters, I'm not gonna be running around town naked )

no but u can lose weapon doing anything with it..

such as weaving, if you use a weapon like a sword, the durability may decrease (not the max) same goes with hitting trees/bushes/objects in town. o_O

Doing life skill activities with a weapon will reduce its durability dramatically. This is why scythes and weeding hoes break down on you so much faster than if you just attacked stuff with them. Some other activities that might not be so obvious are sheep shearing and leather cutting. My precious 5 durability dagger lost 2 points once after an in-game day doing jobs.

You might have heard about weapons losing durability on their own from my Rabbie thread. I was fighting with a stick until I got the message about it "losing durability" (when you use it for a while after it's already at 1), and then I sat down to take a break. When I got up, it broke o.o

This may only happen once your weapon reaches that critical state. If degradation does happen at all times when holding your weapon, it's been too small for me to notice. Besides, I unequip my secondary weapon anyway when fighting to avoid losing any blessings on it if I die.

On the other hand, clothing WILL degrade when wearing it... but that's the only way to gain proficiency on them, so it balances out.

Well that's a relief, I'll keep an eye on it but I won't worry about it anymore.

@DFuzzy1 I didn't get it from your thread, I saw it somewhere on the official forums.

It's an actual fact that durability decreases slowly even if on town(inactive.).
