Seeing how people tend to get lots of fossils, what is the best place to obtain them?

I've read on the Wiki that there are several places to get them: sulfur rocks, flint rocks (while raining), and monster drops.

Out of all of these, what method would yield the most fossils?


(Also, is there any difference in the large and small sulfur pits?)

Any sulfur mine will drop fossils. No particular area will yield more fossils.

If you want to obtain many fossils quickly, the best choice is to upgrade Pickaxes for High durability and Fast Mining for multiple pickaxes and add them in to a pet inventory, than go nuts with mining. Just make sure you have a lot of space to add in fossils (Most people buy multiple pets with huge inventories and use them as banks.)
