Well I can definitely see the advantages or raising up Magnum shot at least to 9. Its a great skill and you even get a few AP back from a quest. What I have been debating on is what to raise first...Critical hit or Magnum..leaning towards Crits since it helps with everything, but any oppinions?

I'm currently alternating between crit (c) and magnum (b) now since I couldn't decide what to do. However, I'm planning on taking both all the way to R6 until arrow revolver comes out.
Magnum shot and Arrow revolver are the reasons why archers are feared like the plague in PVP -_-;;;;;
a group of 4-5 archers with some charging magnum and arrow revolver will rape ike rape

Magnum rank A is 250% rank 9 is 300%, which is a big boost imo.
After rank 9 it takes 36 AP to get to rank 6 which is only 330% (30% dmg increase).
Alternatively, if you keep magnum at rank 9 and spend 39 AP (Assuming you have at least rank F), you can rank Crit from F->7 which will give you an additional 50% Dmg upon Crit; A total of +100% Crit.
I would go Mag rank 9, then get Crit to at least rank 7 before continuing with Mag again.

Besides Fireball (which is an exception because its an advance spell), Firebolt is the only skill that knocks back the enemy regardless of what he/she is doing.
But firebolt lacks damage compared to smash and magnum.
The most valid argument is that smash isn't ranged and magnum can sometimes miss, but I don't think its enough to make up for the fact that firebolt does really miserable damage compared to the two.
Once rank 5 magnum is out, you can do some pretty fun stuff with spiders. (Something like a bazooka)
Oooooh sounds like a source of MUCH amusement... Now I want to raise Magnum, thanks a lot
and about the "not knock someone down with a shield," that only applies to kite shields, correct? I knock down goblins with round shields all the time (if that counts for anything), and I defend goblin magnums and still stand with my kite.

Sometimes they just die because your magnum crits through their defense skill just like other monsters crit through our defenses even with shields.. Dying= knock down..
But for me I learned my lessons: dont shoot arrows to anything defending with a shield especially when they are nearby..
Well... at rank 5 the range and splash damage is quite horrible. It's not until rank 1 that you get a decent radius. It's probably about as big as a claymore's splash dmg? At rank 1 it does 20% splash dmg... Anyways, my old character in the screen shot with: Rank 1 Critical, Rank 1 Range, Rank 1 Magnum with about 200 max damage at that time (can't remember). That's about what it takes to kill red skels with the splash damage.
