Significance of Magnum shot?
My Range Mastery is Rank 8 atm
Should i bother to rank Magnum high or not?
I figure that once revolver comes out that'll basically be the only range move u'd be using so is there any point to getting a high ranked magnum? It costs so much to rank up too...

Yes, there is a reason why you would rank magnum.
Magnum = firebolt -> 100% knockback.
AR = chain cast icebolt, if a mob with natural shield walks in on you, you will be dead no question asked. Besides, in intermediate dungeon, its all about the first shot killing a mob, it makes smash and magnum vital even with AR out.
Oh, anything without natural shield, AR will shred through like paper. But getting AR without magnum will make you cry. (Besides, remember what they say about skills - -|| they give you all the stats. An archer without magnum is like mage without firebolt *laughs*)

It'll surely be great later on with additional splash damage and a big damage % boost on rank 5.

You can solo a ciar basic golem with Magnum... Not with revolver =P
Its knockback is needed for a few range-stun-immune monsters. x.x
Plus, after you've shot your 5 arrows, you most likely won't have the time to reload all five since it loads like magic does...
Its about 48 ap to 300% dmg. Idk, it could become more useful later.
Natural Shield is a bish. T.T

Actually, at rank F, 5 shot of AR takes same time to load than 1 magnum. At rank 1, AR takes only 1 second to load.
In other words, other than stamina use and arrows, you can AR everything to hell. That's why people all call it an ungodly skill.
OTOH, there's quite a few thing that AR can't do other than ineffective against natural shield, I will leave you to figure it out.

I understand this concept. But to your point then wouldn't Rank F magnum suffice the same way as Rank F firebolt suffices? Rank F magnum still has 100% knockback.

Magnum shot is the strongest single strike attack in the game.

I think what this is getting to is rank F Magnum will suffice. That is if your willing to give up ranking your attack with most damage in one hit (like smash).
Just that if you ever encounter a boss with lots of HP, your mag's will probably take an extra while of chaining...

Rank F magnum still has 100% knockback.
Indeed, that is the main reason of having it outside of one hit kill damage.
What is different between firebolt and magnum however is that Magnum actually does real damage when you use it, (in fact, almost monster like damage) so ranking it up is actually useful as opposed to a waste of AP for firebolt.
If your gonna use a skill often, and the skill is like smash or magnum go rank it, at least until 9.
