Hunting for Fine Leather...

Whats the best place to hunt for fine leather? I need lots of it, and math runs arent cutting it... 0-1 leather per run D:

There has to be a better way... just like how kobolds drop common leathers frequently, is there any mob that drops fine leather frequently?

Bears :X Red grizzly bears to be exact, if you can farm them as fast as you can farm kobolds, they will drop it more often.

Fine leather is mostly chance, that's why they are actually worth money as opposed to common leather and cheap leather.

I must have terrible luck because I tried hunting grizzlies for awhile now with no luck :x

I was hunting them around dunbarton.... I've only managed to get 1 finest from them, no fine leather.

Are there any dungeon monster that happen to drop em? Cause that would make it a lot easier.

lol if it was that easy to make the hetero kite shield it would lose alot of its appeal now wouldn't it.

Er this has nothing to do with the hetero kite shield.... thats a rank 8 manual... you wouldnt have a chance in making it successfully without at least rank A smithing.

Kobold Bandits at Troll spawn near Bangor. Not sure if it's a rare drop for them, but I've gotten at least 2/5 times Fine Leather or better from them. Easy to kill as well.

I wonder if a characters Luck has anything to do w/ the type of leather drop or frequency of the better leather dropping? I'm always lucky guy when roaming the kobolds ...

oh so u just all of a sudden got a desire to up and hunt diligently for fine leathers just to add to ur collection? the fact that hetero kite shield patterns just came out and that fine leather straps being one of the required materials per attempt has nothing to do with ur question right?

Also fyi my friend is a rank C smith like u and if u dont know already rank C smithing gets u a 29% chance at a rank 8 manual. Not great odds but certainly not impossible either.

Sorry, the hetero kite shield is the last thing on my mind. No, I need fine leathers for completing the plate gauntlets for skill exp. I also need them for making straps for the boot manuals for rank B skill exp.

Those odds arent impossible, but with such a low success rate, the chances of Big Failures are substantially higher. Big failures will reduce your progress a lot, enough to render any successes you have useless.

I've tried the kobold bandits.... used about 750 arrows (2-4 shots each) and came out with.... 2 fine leathers, 2 finest, 31 common leathers.
Not exactly a great drop rate there
