Secondly, I remember someone saying that houses were auctioned off and you had to bid for one, and then after you get one, you still have to pay rent every week or something.

When you use the search function, it doesn't search the words in the topic title but the words in the posts of that topic. So, if you search "composing guide," you get the topic "AMAZING Pet AI," which of course has nothing to do with Composing, but does have one post which happens to have the word "composing" in it, as well as many posts with the word "guide." :P

You forget the option that allows you to search for titles only. This allows a more specific search rather than getting the other topics. So yes, you can set it, and yes it does make it easier a lot of the time. This is all under the advanced search.
