Cost Effective Weapon
Ok, so I need a decent melee weapon on the cheap. I am poor. I have about 15K in the bank, but I need enough for a weapon and shield. I'm not looking for the greatest gear in the world, but I do need something decent as a fall-back. Please don't mention buying gold from the internet or anything retarded like that. I play Mabinogi for fun and because it is free. Thanks in advance.

I'd say a dagger is a good start, also when it's upgraded right, it can do some pretty nice damage. For the shield, I beleive eventaully you will get a quest to hunt a (insert the monster's name) and the reward is a Round Shield. Or you can just buy it from the Weapon NPC.

Well to get the round shield from a hunting quest, I think you have to defeat the SECOND golem (which Small Golem from Ciar beginner still counts for it). But you have to kill the Succubus (or Ogre?) and such and then get the quest I think.
As for the weapon, I suggest something from Ferghus. Anything would get you through ciar beginner really. I actually enjoy using the Hatchet. If you're low on money, try doing a constant number of ciar beginners a day (most people I know can only do 3). I do around 7-20 on a good day And if you limit yourself to that until you can get enough funds for either a better weapon and such, try something harder.

Daggers are tricky in that if you don't have enough strength to back it up, most (if not all) weapons prove to be superior.
Additionally, if you lag, you won't be able to pull off those awesome dagger N+1's that so many of us have failed to execute without being murdered due to mistakes.
Try out the wooden blade. Considerably easier to pull N+1's with than a dagger. Cheap repairs from Edern (it's like 200 per point I think? 2k/per with Goddess on it). Plus when upgraded properly it can do a smackload of damage.

Daggers are worthless without strength to back it up, like blackmaged said.
Your Eiry is actually a really great weapon.
If you want a cost efficient weapon that doesn't go crazy on you like a claymore, a mace or hammer is actually a good way to go.

Eiry was a great weapon untill I realized that you don't gain any proficiency on her >>
You'll get a free fluted short sword once you hit a certain level, which isn't a bad weapon either.

Maces have a good attack range (better than the warhammer) and the cost for upgrades are fairly cheap. If you have a shield, maces are the best weapon to use it with

I suggest you continue using Eiry until you get the Fluted Short Sword, and then use that until you get your Bastard Sword from doing the 'Hunt 1 Hellhound' quest. Of course if you finish the quest before getting the Fluted Short Sword, you can always skip the weapon. From there, you can get a Round Shield from another hunting quest, which is 'Hunt 1 Golem' (I got the quest in Ceo Island, lucky me >>; that Golem took forever). After that you should get the 'Hunt 1 Ogre Warrior' quest, where you can get your Two-handed Sword. I would alternate the Bastard Sword + Round Shield and Two-handed Sword every now and then, since one gives more defense while the other gives more power. (Use the Two-handed Sword for more powerful monsters and such, if you need to.) I suggest either buying a Stiff Considerate or Stiff Fierce Mace once you have around 20k to 50k; Stiff Considerate if you're more magic-based, and Stiff Fierce for combat or ranged characters. Then you can alternate between the Mace and Two-handed Sword. That's how I went through my weaponry, ending up at a Stiff Considerate Mace and a Two-handed Sword, as well as a Round Shield; I used mostly free items.

You listed that out pretty well.
I guess this is one of those moments that deserves a rep?
Edit: Holy crap. Is the rep system balanced so people with more rep gets more rep power?
You just go 5 bars because I repped you.
