Head over to Dunbarton, find Glenis at the restaurant and talk about "Skills." She'll give you a book entitled "Step-by-Step Cooking Skill 101," select "Advance Reading" from the menu.

Congratulations, you now have knowledge about the Cooking Skill. You may now refer to yourself as an Apprentice Chef or Chef-in-Training, whichever you prefer.

*Note: This skill is affected by Dex. The higher your Dexterity the steadier the mini-game Ingredient Bar will be and the better your chances are for creating 5-star meals.

The Tools

Cooking utensils can be purchased from Walter (Dunbarton General Store) or Nora (Tir Chonaill Inn).

Practice Rank and Rank F - First, Mixing Ingredients.

Head over to the General Store and pick up your utensils. Click on the right arrow with the shop window open until you see the tab "Cooking Appliances." For now, just purchase a Cooking Knife (830g) and a Cooking Table (1821g). Equip them.

Before we begin cooking, we'll need something just as important as our tools, a recipe. These are the three that I started off with Strawberry Milk, Assorted Fruits and Mayonnaise. DO NOT follow the recipes from the in-game cook books! The ratios are completely off.

Strawberry Milk - Cost to make: 25g.
Strawberry (30%) Milk (65%) Sugar (5%)

Assorted Fruits - Cost to make: 15g.
Strawberry (46%) Apple (30%) Berry (24%)

Mayonnaise - Cost to make: 40g.
Egg (75%) Olive Oil (20%) Salt (5%)

If you make equal amounts of Assorted Fruits and Mayonnaise you can use them with a little Sugar to make Fruit Salad.

To get through the Practice Rank, you need to successfully make six dishes. You'll also need to read the book "Master Chef's Cooking Class: Baking" which can be purchased from Aeira at the Bookstore in Dunbarton for 5500 gold. You do not need any Ability Points (AP) to Advance to Rank F.

Fruit Salad - Cost to make: 65g.
Assorted Fruits (75%) Mayonnaise (15%) Sugar (10%)

Now we have our recipes. Once all the ingredients have been gathered and you have a Cooking Knife in your Right-hand and a Cooking Table in your Left-hand, we're ready to start. Click "Use" on your Cooking Skill and a new window will pop up.

*Note: To get Milk, you'll need an Empty Bottle. (You can purchase one from a General Store, catch one while fishing, or get it as a Quest Reward after completing certain Part-Time Jobs.) Find a cow grazing in the fields outside Dunbarton or Emain Macha. With the Empty Bottle in your right hand and nothing in your left hand, click on a cow. Your character will begin milking the cow and if successful... Yata! You'll have a bottle of Milk.

Also, Deian and Caitin in Tir Chonaill reward Milk after certain Part-Time Job quests.

Place one of each ingredient in the squares. You need to use the ratios in the recipe and properly balance your ingredients...

If you don't, you'll end up with a plate of worthless Food Waste.

Let's start with Strawberry Milk, it's the most common item for new cooks. Click "Add" under the Strawberry and hold it down. You'll notice that the gray bar at the bottom will start to fill up. You can fill it up slowly by releasing the mouse-button, so you don't put in too much of any ingredient.

The red preparation bar stabilizes with the amount of Dexterity your character has. Stop adding Strawberry when the bar is 30% full. Now add Milk until the bar is 95% full and top it off with Sugar. When the bar turns yellow, the Start button will light up. Click "Start" to finalize your masterpiece.

Depending on how well you did in the ratio mini-game, you'll end up with a result between 1 and 5-stars. Well, to help you with ratios I'll show you a little something I came up with, it helps me a lot, so hopefully, it will help you too. Shhh.... Here's my little secret.

I graphed the preparation bar so it's easier to see ratios. Increments of 5 (red) and 10s (black). The image is scaled at approximately 200% the original size. The trick is to find something in the image that is close to the marker you're aiming for. Let's take a look at the Strawberry Milk recipe once again.

[Milk 65%] The marker is above the letter C in "Cancel" and in front of the ending line of the second "Add" button. Fill the bar to there and then continue with the rest of the ingredients. Find the next marker and other points in the image that will assist you. And voila! You're one step closer to that 5-star meal!

For Rank F, you'll need to succeed at Mixing 50 times. Read the book "Master Chef's Cooking Class: Simmering" which can be purchased from Aeira for another 5500 gold; you don't have to do this right away, we're not through yet...

Part II - Baking.

To continue gaining experience with Rank F, you'll need to succeed at Baking (10) times, get (10) 4-star or better baked results and eat (20) 4 or 5-star baked food.

First, you'll need a new set of cooking equipment - a Cooking Dipper (874) and a Cooking Pot (23000), if you wait 'til Friday, you can get a shop discount from the daily bonus. You'll also need to find a Cooking Oven or be near a Campfire to Bake.

Now for the recipes. Let's go with the two cost efficient Baking recipes in the game: Fried Egg and Baked Potato.

Fried Egg - Cost to make: 10g.
Egg (90%) Salt (10%)

Baked Potato - Cost to make: 10g.
Potato (90%) Salt OR Pepper (10%)

The last Training Method for Rank F is listed as "Unknown Training Method" to complete this part, you'll need to eat (20) Boiled food without sharing. *This step is optional, you can "Advance" to Rank E as long as you've completed all the other Training Methods. You'll need 3 AP in order to Advance.

RANK E - Boiling

The equipment used for Boiling is the same as Baking, a Cooking Dipper and Cooking Pot. Just don't forget to switch the drop down menu to the appropriate method for your recipe or else you'll just end up with another batch of burnt Food Waste. (I tend to forget that myself, sometimes...)

Let's look at the Training Methods required for Advancing to the next rank:

▪ Make (10) 4-star or better boiled dishes, doing this will also fulfill the success (10) requirement.
▪ Eat (30) boiled dishes. O_O (The long-term effect for Boiled Eggs/Potatoes reduces your character's Dexterity. So sneak in some Berries, Apples or other +Dex foods while you're working on this step.)
▪ Successfully Bake (30) dishes and read a book about Kneading. (You can buy the "In-depth Guide to Dough-Making" book from Aeira at the Bookstore for 6000 gold.)

You should have a basic idea of what needs to be done by now. If you don't... Well, you'll need to scroll back to the top.

Continuing on... Here are three simple Boiling recipes.

Boiled Egg - Cost to make: 10g.
Water (60%) Egg (35%) Salt (5%)

Boiled Potato - Cost to make: 10g.
Water (55%) Potato (40%) Salt (5%)

Steamed Corn - Cost to make: none.
Corn (81%) Water (19%)

*Note: To get Water, you'll need an Empty Bottle again. Find a designated area to begin collecting. They're marked with a sign (a pitcher of water). You can collect Water from the Adellia Stream in Tir Chonaill or at the pier by the restaurant in Emain Macha. You can also get Water from wells.

After completing all the Training Methods, you'll need to allocate 5 AP in order to Advance to Rank D.

RANK D - Kneading

Okay, we're moving along nicely. We need one last utensil, a Rolling Pin. Buy one from Nora or Walter for 1030g. Break out the old Cooking Table as well. Now let's review the Training Methods for this rank. *Note: Save up 5 AP for advancing to Rank C.

▪ Successful in Kneading a dish. (20)
▪ Successful in Boiling a dish. (20)
▪ Eat a Steamed dish without sharing. (20) - Unknown Training Method *Optional, can be skipped.
▪ Eat a deliciously Boiled dish. (50)
▪ Successful in Baking a dish. (50)
▪ Learn better skills by reading a book on Simmering. (1)

Mabinogi World Wiki:
"You can buy the simmering book, Boiling: The Basics of Heat Cooking from Gordon's secret shop for 9800 gold. To gain access to Gordon's secret shop, improve your relationship with him by gifting him rings (approximately 26 or more). Rings can be purchased from Eavan in Dunbarton for 500 gold."

*Note: Nora in Tir Chonaill also sells Gift Rings. Gordon will also accept Tailoring Kits but do not rely on these. He also doesn't like to talk all the time. So don't  do the "give gift, talk, give gift, talk" sort of thing. Space it out, if not, he'll stare you down, annoyed.

I've only accessed his Secret Shop once and unfortunately if I repeat the process just to come to a "definite" conclusion, I will only burn a hole in my pocket. But from my experience, Gordon doesn't tell you that his secret shop is available to you until you click "Shop."

One clue that I do have, however, is that when you speak to him using the "Personal Story" keyword and he recalls about his past and how much of a great chef he wanted to be, that would be a good indication to check his "Shop" to see if there is a new tab.

*sigh* Yare, yare. Let's find ourselves some recipes... (Done!)

Choose a few Boiling recipes a create (20) dishes, I recommend the same ones I listed previously. We'll Knead Flour Dough (20) and Bake Sliced Bread (20) and Toast (20). Choose (10) more dishes to cook from the previous Baking recipes to complete the Training Method. Eat (50) Boiled dishes. Hmm... decisions, decisions. Boiled Corn is the easiest to prepare.

If you're really eager for a Perfect Skill Train, you can purchase (20) Taitinn Carp Stew from Gordon in Emain Macha for 1050g each or have another player with Rank C Cooking provide you with Steamed dishes.

Flour Dough - Cost to make: 110g.
Wheat Flour (65%) Water (23%) Yeast (12%)

Sliced Bread - Cost to make: 125g. Should only cost you 15g since you should already have the dough.
Flour Dough (85%) Butter (15%)

Toast - Cost to make: 140g. Should only have to buy more Butter.
Sliced Bread (80%) Butter (20%)

*Note: Harvest Wheat (10) in Tir Chonaill Farmlands with a Sickle and grind them at the Mill to get Wheat Flour (1). To operate the Windmill, speak with Alissa and pay 100g for 1 minute or 450g for 5 minutes. Within 1 minute, I was able to grind (6) Wheat Flour.
(Dimensions: Wheat 1x3, Wheat Flour 2x2)

To begin Kneading, equip the Rolling Pin (RH) and the Cooking Table (LH). Follow each recipe and you should be good to go and well on your way to Rank C. Happy cooking!

RANK C - Simmering

The Training Method, once again:

▪ Make a dish that is delicously Simmered. (10)
▪ Successful in Simmering a dish. (10)
▪ Eat a deliciously Simmered dish. (20)
▪ Successful in Kneading a dish. (20)
▪ Learn better skills by reading a book on Noodle Making. (1)

Unfortunately, Rank B (which requires 5 AP to Advance) is not yet available in NA Mabinogi and not all the Simmering recipes are working at the moment. I'll wait until it's fixed to continue with the guide.
