Today we managed to crash the database on our new server, service was restored within 30 minutes but still...

Is it a shared hosting or your own dedicated box?
With VB so many things seem to cause database errors, i used to use VB but now tempted to create my own forum software. Any hacks/plugins you have might be causing it. If it's on a shared host, maybe it can't handle the load along side the other websites also using mysql server.

But, is it the actual mysql server crashing, or the forum database going nuts? optimizing/fixing the database, and using all those database cleanup tools on the admin pannel really helps a lot. You should put the website on maintenance a few times a month to run those commands, makes a big difference (if you don't already, don't recall any notices about it though).

It's the actual mysql crashing, I'll definitely look in to the database cleanup tools. Thanks for the tip!
