IRC guidelines
IRC GUIDELEINES.
I strongly suggest you lay em' down, and implement em'.
Stick tightly to em or you'll have people crying "unfair death and misery" from the rafters for being themselves.
I speak from experience... chat can be a valuable extension of a messageboard... or it can become a seperate, breathing entity, a free-for-all where power consumes the hearts of the few and priveledged and lets them abuse the lives and rights of others.
Those who are given the right to moderate an official chat should hold the same impartiality as the moderators you appoint to control filth levels in your forums.
All it takes is one person with a bad attitude and a bias.
:3 Thanks for reading the suggestion.

I'd not only like to see some IRC guidelines, but a verbose set of forum rules, regulations and associated punishments for breaching them.
Our goal should be to make MabiGuru the primere Mabinogi fan/info site, so we should be well structured enough to expand accordingly. While the sort of moderation so far works fairly well for a close-knit community (like we currently have), if it goes the way Sleepywood went we'll be flooded by all kinds of people in the coming months and we'll have quite a handful to deal with.

Tofu -- that's not too hard to fix. If we just keep his b&hammer blessed we can ensure that it doesn't break when we repair it!
Just means we need a bunch of Church part-timers to get us a steady supply of Holy Water.

There's really no reason for a ban hammer for that long. Unless they're acting extremely stupid, there shouldn't be a reason to ban people. If there's a crap load of spamming, just +m the channel, devoice everyone, and wait for it to subside.

That can really depend on the person and situation there.
I have seen folks who have been banned for prolonged periods who had really done nothing except have a different opinion than a chatmod. Not a crime, but more than enough to the power-crazed.
But far worse, is the other end of the spectrum. Some people will treat a chat like a free-for-all chance to spout garbage at people and watch them cry. These monstrous people who seem to enjoy the suffering of other humans are very rare, it's true; but the existence of ONE is all it takes to prove the exception. They are called trolls, and the moment one finds a place to hide, others will congregate quicker than you can notice.
And heaven forbid one of these creatures ever gets ahold of a banhammer. The result will be monotone, justified disaster.

As long as Arsik blesses the hammer and makes sure Ferghus isn't the one fixing it, it'll be fine.
I'm not too great with IRC's, but its been obvious the conversations are getting slightly out of control.
I say give them all a 1 day ban scare. xDDDDDDDDD For this we'll need the mini piko piko ban hammer.
